Kyoorius Design magazine

yay!

After the Kyoorius Designyatra event last november, we have since been in contact with both the organisers in India and their counterparts here in Malaysia.

We got to looking at their magazine, in fact India's one and only graphic design magazine - and it's really quite nice.

check it here: Kyoorius mag

The mag, although created primarily in India, is also crafted here and distributed from Malaysia to Europe.

And as luck would have it, they were looking for an editorial team to help get it out there. Whad'ya know, Jayemmcee and Miss Ooi just happen to be the ideal candidates for it.

So as of yesterday, myself and Miss Ooi are officially the "associate editors" of India's only design magazine, from the comfort of our own home - quite marvellous!

this makes me happy, very happy :D

Commas & Industry

not JYN Tonic anymore

So, we attempted to register our company recently, the JYN Tonic partnership, yet is was rejected by the Malaysian government.

apparently it sounds too much like a boozy drink - and Islamic law doesn't take kindly to that.

Anyways...we had to scrap that beautiful idea and come up with another one. so we did.

We settled on the name Commas & Industry.

heh.

So we are now a registered company, ready to take over the world. or not.

:D

Oliver Stone Covershot

Yay!

so, December last year was the Malaysian Global Brand Forum event - the sister of the Singapore event that i had the joy of being spike Lee's bodyguard at.

The Malaysian event didn't have Spike Lee, but it did have Oliver Stone.

I was photographer for the event and as such managed to snap a few nice portraits of the man himself.

Come February and purely by accident, i've somehow managed to get my portrait of Mr Stone on the cover of Malaysia's most well-respected business/arts/politics magazine 'Off The Edge'.

plus the lead shot for the feature article on him and his unique brand.

Lovely.

Actually, this is quite an exciting achievement for me. For one it's OTE cover and two, well, it's Oliver Stone.

What more could a pretend photographer ask for?

not much.

My dilemma now is whether or not i should retire and quit while i'm ahead...

we'll see.

global village

working from home for 'home'

i love the fact that even though i sit at home all day working, i'm in fact building an international portfolio.

i had an email from an old friend [Nichola] recently. she's a tech wizard in London starting up a whole bunch of companies that look destined to rule the world.

it's called theMediaFlow...

anyhoos, she needed an 'emergency' identity campaign and contacted me no the strength of my clean, minimal style of empty graphics.

so i did it, in record timing and, well, she loved it.

i loved it too and we all rejoiced.

from there i secured a whole bunch of branding exercises that i had amazing fun executing.

so from one comfy seat in Malaysia i am now producing identities for companies in London.

can't be bad.

once the sites go live, you'll be the first to know - stay tuned P

The Voice of EVIL!

Ratna-Kul and me

Finally, the Hidden Dawn computer game is well on the way to being released.

The website is live and the game is finished, now we're in the recording studion doing voiceovers for the cinematics.

I am playng the role of the main bad-guy, Ratna-Kul.

this is an amazing project to work on as i'm involved at so many levels.

i started out as a sub-editor for the project and eventually positioned myself as brand consultant, storywriter, script editor and overall project co-ordinator.

i came up with most of the character names, brand title, game title and tightened up all of the marketable elements of the game. it's fun.

now i'm doing some evil voiceover as the baddie and in order to get the voice right, i'm forcing myself to drink brandy and smoke as many cigars as possible.

plus, i'm convincing myself that i've been banished from a stellar pathway as i'm considered much too dangerous and malevolent to be integrated into the universal community.

quite easy.

anyhoos, go check out the HD website

Aikido in the China Press

Guang Ming Daily

A mate of mine sms'd me the other day congratulating me for getting in the Chinese press. i was clueless.

upon investigation, it turns out that i played role of the novelty foreigner in an aikido feature. nice.

after a translation of the feature it says:

:"aikido is so awesome, even the foreigners can learn it."

charming.

nonetheless, the very first photo of me in dojo has appeared.

ninja birthday

with real ninjas

long time since i posted anything - busy.

anyhoos, for me birthday i thought i'd celebrate with some stealth cuisine, so i went to Ninja Jones Japanese restaurant.

quite swanky and staffed by ninjas no less.

they deliver your food without you realising, they're that sneaky. blink and your tea has been refilled, get distracted for a second and all your plates get cleared away.

sneaky

it was fun.

and i'm 32.

real ninjas, honest
